DESIGN OF THE WEEK

Veggies and Candy

I think a savoy cabbage makes a spectacular springtime centerpiece. And it's so easy to do! With a small, sharp knife, carve out the center of the cabbage and insert a chunk of floral foam. You should secure it with a couple of pieces of bamboo skewers. Then just add a few flowers and some greens, maybe a snip of curly willow and voila! Place it on a charger, in a serving bowl or use a bread basket like I did here. Inexpensive, yet impressive.

I was asked to create a centerpiece representing Spring that would spotlight a local seed company's potted ranunculas. The candy eggs were a big hit...so big the guests started eating them! Can you make out the little bird's nest rising above the flower? Just a fun, unexpected touch.

The asparagus design was done just like the leeks on the home page. I used a Mason jar and added a bunch of fuschia ranunculas. Just about any type of flowers would work, especially alstromeria which last a long time.

Jelly beans are perfect for Easter. Just use a smaller container inside the outer container and add the candy in between the two. Also think about using larger containers with plastic or actual Easter eggs.

If you enjoyed learning how to create this fun design, you will LOVE my brand new Book and Ebook! It contains almost 60 arrangements, most with step-by-step, easy to follow instructions even more detailed than these few, plus dozens of floral tips and ideas. . It's so much fun!
