Pumpkin Potential

The very first step to this design (not shown) is to cut the top off of a medium sized pumpkin and scoop out the innards (yuck!). To make it dazzle, create squiggles with a hot glue gun. Before the glue completely dries, run a knife around the opening. Next spray paint it in the color of your choice. I also sprinkled it with glitter. Then remove the top and add a watertight container like this deli tub filled with pre-soaked floral foam, rising about an inch above the top. Next, go crazy with your spray paint and gild some greens. I used magnolia leaves, but you could use salal, camelia, pitisporum, almost any round leaf foliage, even Fall tree trimmings. Look in your yard! Clean off any nubs on the stems and insert your greens, remembering to point them toward an imaginary X in the center. I took a small pumpkin and gave it the same treatment as the large one, minus cutting off the top. Using bamboo skewer "legs", I inserted it into the large pumpkin, then added a bunch of sunflowers. You could use gerbera daisies, chrysanthemums, lilies....you get to choose. Finally, I added three gilded kiwi vines to give it a little added rhythm and interest. What a unique Halloween or Thanksgiving centerpiece!
