Typically, with milestone events like the Big _0 Birthday or anniversary parties, you want to share photos of the honorees with your guests. Here is a way to incorporate the photos into your centerpieces and add special memories to each table. (Sorry for the poor quality photos, but I really wanted to share this trick with you. I'm taking a photography class in the fall - boy, do I need it!)
Using an Exacto knife, cut a sheet of foam board into 11" x 11" squares and attach them to wooden dowels with packing or masking tape. At your craft store, you will find scrap book paper to go with just about any theme you can imagine. I was amazed at the selection. PLUS, all the festive little stick ons just blew me away! For this anniversary party, although not easy to see in the photo, I found wedding paper for the background with a complimentary blue stripe design. I trimmed the background paper with a pair of those scissors that make scalloped edges and, using double-sided tape, mounted half of them straight and the other half at an angle (like in this photo) on both sides of the foam board. Next I mounted the photos to the striped paper and put them onto the background paper, then added some stick ons. You can barely see the wedding cake at the top. I also used "Happy Anniversary", wedding bells and hearts.
Pre-soaked floral foam serves as a base for my fresh materials, but you could also use articial flowers with dry floral foam. Here I used ivy, salal and leather leaf ferns for my greens. See what you might have in your yard. Point them all toward an imaginary X in the center of the foam. Next add the flowers of your choice, but try to use colors that blend with your scrap book paper.
Finally, insert the dowel into the foam! You may want to do this part after you've placed the bases on the tables. Guests really have fun visiting each table to view the array of photos! This is also a great way to add height and dimension to a large banquet room.
