Ever need to come up with a certain color combination for a party centerpiece, but just can't find the right combination of flowers and containers? Take a graduation party, for instance. So many schools in my area use blue and gold as their colors. Blue flowers are hard to come by, but spray paint isn't!

I took an ordinary terra cotta pot and painted it a deep, cornflower blue. You need to put a plastic liner in the bottom or you could always get a terra cotta saucer and paint it, too. You don't want water to leak onto your table linen. Half a block of pre-soaked floral foam is cut to fit inside the pot, with about half an inch extending above the top.
You can either purchase greens or use greens from your yard, such as camelia, pitisporum, lemon leaf, etc. to cover the floral foam. Point the stems toward the center. You could also use craft store moss if you prefer that to greens. Moisten it and anchor it to the foam with u-shaped wires.
For the "gold", I gathered three stems of bright yellow Asiatic lilies and secured the top and bottom with rubber bands. You could also use sunflowers, gerbera daisies, dahlias, or other large flowers. Cut the stems to an even length, then insert the bundle into the center of the foam. Add another flower or two at the base for balance and a coordinating bow! Whatever the colors of your school or event theme, you can always create a fantastic centerpiece with a little imagination!
