Salsa Party!

chili peppers

I had a lot of fun creating this arrangement and the folks at eBay had fun speculating how I did it. I didn't tell them, but I'll tell you! I filled the clear glass vase about 1/3 full of black beans. Then, using the container inside a container technique, I cut down a plastic vodka bottle so, when placed on top of the beans, it was just about level with the top of the vase. I inserted a pre-soaked block of floral foam into the plastic bottle. Then I added more black beans, which I topped off with three types of green chili peppers. I curled the ti leaves by taping the tips to the stems and securing them with florist's tape. Three red hot anthurium dance above the leaves and corn husks sprayed black repeat the color of the beans. A red bell pepper is barely visible in the center. Since fresh red chili peppers weren't available, I used artificial. Don't be afraid to combine artificial with natural materials. Guess I'm a little early for Cinco de Mayo, but wouldn't this make an amazing focal point for a Fiesta or marguerita party?
